Time away from Wisteria Lane

Share

WITH all the attention lavished on Wisteria Lane’s “Desperate Housewives,” it’s easy to overlook the males in the neighborhood. Actor Shawn Pyfrom, at 20 already a veteran of film (“The Shaggy Dog,” the upcoming indie thriller “The Darkroom”) and TV (“Still Standing,” “8 Simple Rules”), plays Andrew Van de Kamp, the desperately rebellious son of Bree (Marcia Cross).

The whole gang returns Sunday at 9 for the season premiere on ABC, but Pyfrom, a Florida native who now calls Studio City home, has been enjoying life away from the Lane too.

No meaty roles

On Friday night, if I wanted to stay on my side of the hill, I’d go grab some dinner at Vegan Plate on Ventura. I sort of became a vegan about three months ago, mainly because of a friend of mine who I play soccer with all the time. He’s strict vegan, and whenever we’d be done playing, we’d go to a vegan restaurant, and before I knew it, I got used to it. And I think I do feel better. When I’m done eating, I’m satisfied, without that awful, too-full feeling. At Vegan Plate I’d order the soy chicken, and they have a great coconut-milk ice cream that’s really fresh and light-tasting.

After that, I’d love to go listen to some music at the House of Blues. Maybe see Buddy Guy again, just soak in more of his music. Then I might meet up with friends for a late-night party.

Getting some kicks

On Saturday morning I’d cram down a little fruit for breakfast and then go with a huge group of friends to the big Pan Pacific soccer field near La Brea and Beverly. We usually play until the sun goes down, but on this weekend I might break off for lunch at the Newsroom Cafe in West Hollywood. They have amazing soy buffalo wings, and I’d order a side of spinach and cooked tomato.

Then I’d go back and play some more, then come home, shower and head over to La Poubelle in Hollywood, where they have these tiny appetizers with fresh hummus, olives and celery, and the pita bread is fantastic. Then I might go to the Geisha House for some sushi. I was at a private party there once and they had an awesome DJ.

Then I’d maybe check out the club scene by the pool at the Hollywood Roosevelt. There’s always something going on there.

Organism loading

On Sunday morning I’d sleep late and then go to Vegan Express in West L.A., where they have the best lentil loaf around, and maybe a soy chicken sandwich and French fries. And I’d order a kombucha, a kind of Asian cheese that I think is made from cultivated mushroom that has about 200 billion organisms in it. It’s supposed to be amazing for your body, and even though I cheat on the vegan thing every so often, I’m trying to stay healthy. I cheated with a big steak the day after my birthday last month, and it tasted great going down, but I felt just awful the next day.

After Vegan Express, I’d go to CityWalk and look around with my girlfriend and maybe check out a movie. At night, we’d go to the M Cafe in West Hollywood for some fresh fish, veggies, brown rice and more lentil loaf.

Then maybe we’d check out the Troubadour, as long as it wasn’t some screaming punk emo band. Now, Radiohead, that would be nice.
