Better late, or maybe never

Share

As a single man over 50 (OK, over 60) who has never been married, I have neither settled nor settled down [“Did They Settle Down, or All Simply Settle?,” by Shana Ting Lipton, Sept. 7]. I am still looking (maybe foolishly) for my “missing piece,” but I need and deserve more than just a warm body to fill the empty side of the bed.

Being alone has allowed me to have exceptional personal freedom, but at the sacrifice of someone special to share the good times and to grow old with.

However, I would rather be alone, secure and happy with the man I have become than to be captured in a barren relationship that offers nothing more than shared boredom.

It’s too late for me to grow old with someone, but with the right person, I can still grow.
