Bush’s view of deaths as ‘nanoseconds’ in history
Re “No room for doubt in the Oval Office,” Opinion, Sept. 20
When Max Boot quotes the president’s dismissive and callous reaction to the recent spike in killings in Iraq as “just a ‘nanosecond’ in historical terms,” I felt a wave of disgust and anger. Imagine if President Bush were to refer to the terrible suffering of 9/11 as a “nanosecond.” It’s no wonder Bush is able to continue this failed policy in Iraq without serious thought, because according to him, the suffering of dead and wounded Iraqis, U.S. military and our allies -- and all of us who actually care for our fellow human beings -- represents just a series of nanoseconds in his administration’s pathetic and horribly managed misadventure.
