Web security info overruled at gate
TWO weeks ago, before leaving Dallas for Ontario, Calif., I went to www.tsa.gov to double-check the items allowed for carry-on. I also had, in my carry-on, a 1-ounce bottle of an over-the-counter herbal throat spray. As an entertainer, I use it often and carry it on a doctor’s recommendation. It was, according to the published documentation, perfectly allowable.
At the security checkpoint, it was removed by a very nice agent, and she then called over her supervisor. He was loud, rude and had no interest in looking at the documentation I had with me. He told me nothing I could show him in writing would make any difference.
I called the Transportation Security Administration directly. I was told that even though this information is published on the TSA website, it is “at the discretion of the agent.” I am frustrated trying to abide by the ever-changing rules of travel.
