Blast Outside Governor’s Office Kills at Least 12

A suspected suicide bomber killed at least 12 people outside the governor’s office in the southern town of Lashkar Gah, police said. The governor was not hurt.
Another blast south of Kabul, the capital, killed an Italian soldier, police said.
Earlier, gunmen in Kandahar killed Safia Ama Jan, an Afghan women’s rights activist who had run an underground school for girls during the Taliban’s rule.
Hundreds of men and women attended Jan’s funeral.
