Weekend will prove their worth

I’m getting tired of people writing to The Times, saying that no matter what happens, this year’s Dodgers team doesn’t “deserve” to make the playoffs.

Last time I checked, the playoff lineup was determined by stats. The teams with the best record are rewarded with a playoff trip. Those of you with that lame opinion, I’d like to see your reaction when you hit your goals at work this year and the data supports it, but your boss doesn’t give you a raise simply because he feels you don’t “deserve” it. Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Angels, stop whining about how you dug yourselves too big a hole at the start of the year and that is why you missed the playoffs. The A’s were 15 games under .500 in May of 2005 and came back to lead the AL West and almost won it. You should follow their example and plug the holes in your team this off-season rather than be a poor loser.
