Re “No compromise in offer to Democrats,” April 11

So President Bush wants to “discuss” the latest Iraq funding bill with the Democrats? The primary enemy of the United States and the architect of 9/11 was and is Osama bin Laden. Our military cornered Bin Laden in the Tora Bora mountains in Afghanistan, but he somehow got away from the best military in the world.

After more than five years, the real mission -- to capture, try, sentence and punish Bin Laden -- is still not accomplished. So what does Bush want to discuss with the Democrats? This war is not, and has never been, about fighting a war on terror. If it were, Bin Laden would long ago have been brought to justice.
