When babies are in control

Re: [“No Diaper, No Problem,” April 2]: Like Dr. Valerie Ulene and Melinda Rothstein, I was initially skeptical of elimination communication.
Imagine my surprise when my 3-week-old daughter woke up dry from a nap, and when on a lark I held her in a squat over the tub and made a “sss” sound, she eliminated into the tub.
Perhaps it was just luck, but now at 10 months she wears a diaper only when sleeping or traveling in the car, and rarely has an accident on my watch.
Babies have so little control over their lives; how satisfying it must be for them to accomplish elimination in such a dignified way.
