How to round out a Thompson ticket

Re “McCain losing favor with Republican voters,” April 12
Will the disclosure of actor and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson’s lymphoma have an adverse effect on his standing in the polls now that, according to the latest Times poll, he is No. 2 among Republicans without even declaring his candidacy for president?
Americans should ignore the inevitable cries from the haters that Thompson belongs on the set with his cast members rather than on the campaign trail. Nobody who saw his portrayal of the take-charge Dulles International Airport manager contending with a terrorist shutdown of the facility can have any doubt about his presidential caliber.
Of course, Thompson needed the assistance of Bruce Willis to prevail in that crisis, but doesn’t that suggest how he should round out the ticket when nominated? What has happened to my country in the last six years?
