The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:

Jeffrey A. Avery, 19, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; private first class, Army. Avery was killed Monday when an improvised bomb exploded at a security checkpoint in Muqdadiya, Iraq, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 571st Military Police Company, 504th Military Police Battalion, 42nd Military Police Brigade at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Ray M. Bevel, 22, of Andrews, Texas; corporal, Army. Bevel was killed April 21 when a roadside bomb exploded near him in Yusifiya, Iraq, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Jeffery A. Bishop, 23, of Dickson, Tenn.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Bishop was killed in combat April 20 in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

William W. Bushnell, 24, of Jasper, Ark.; sergeant, Army. Bushnell was killed April 21 when his vehicle was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Bliss, Texas.

Willie P. Celestine Jr., 21, of Lafayette, La.; corporal, Marine Corps. Celestine was killed in combat Thursday in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Kevin J. Gaspers, 26, of Hastings, Neb.; first lieutenant, Army. Gaspers was among nine paratroopers killed Monday when two truck bombs exploded at a U.S. base in a converted schoolhouse in Iraq’s Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Marlon B. Harper, 34, of Baltimore; staff sergeant, Army. Harper was killed April 21 when his unit was attacked with a rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

King was among nine paratroopers killed Monday when two truck bombs exploded at a U.S. base in a converted schoolhouse in Iraq’s Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Knoll was among nine paratroopers killed Monday when two truck bombs exploded at a U.S. base in a converted schoolhouse in Iraq’s Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Locker was among nine paratroopers killed Monday when two truck bombs exploded at a U.S. base in a converted schoolhouse in Iraq’s Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Adam E. Loggins, 27, of Athens, Ala.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Loggins was killed in combat Thursday in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Jeremy Maresh, 24, of Jim Thorpe, Pa.; specialist, Army National Guard. Maresh died Tuesday in an apparent suicide in Baghdad. He was assigned to C Battery, 1st Battalion, 213th Air Defense Artillery in Spring City, Pa.

Randell T. Marshall, 22, of Fitzgerald, Ga.; sergeant, Army. Marshall was among nine paratroopers killed Monday when two truck bombs exploded at a U.S. base in a converted schoolhouse in Iraq’s Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Dwayne L. Moore, 31, of Williamsburg, Va.; chief warrant officer, Army. Moore was killed April 19 in a rocket attack on his unit in Mahmudiya, Iraq, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Wade J. Oglesby, 27, of Grand Junction, Colo.; corporal, Army. Oglesby was one of two soldiers killed April 18 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

He was assigned to the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Michael J. Rodriguez, 20, of Sanford, N.C.; specialist, Army. Rodriguez was among nine paratroopers killed Monday when two truck bombs exploded at a U.S. base in a converted schoolhouse in Iraq’s Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Michael J. Slater, 19, of Scott Depot, W.Va.; private, Army. Slater was killed April 21 when his vehicle overturned in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 407th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Steven R. Tudor, 36, of Dunmore, Pa.; staff sergeant, Army. Tudor was killed in a grenade explosion April 21 in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 210th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Alexander Van Aalten, 21, of Monterey, Tenn.; sergeant, Army. Van Aalten was killed April 20 when a land mine exploded near him while he was on foot patrol in the Sangin district of Afghanistan’s Helmand province, southwest of Kabul. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Vaughan was among nine paratroopers killed Monday when two truck bombs exploded at a U.S. base in a converted schoolhouse in Iraq’s Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.
