Poverty demands global solution
Re “Aid that jumps the border,” Opinion, July 31
The basic reality is that the globe is now a socially and economically interdependent society ruled by the wealthy -- largely corporations. It is producing increasing maldistribution of wealth and power between nations and classes. The result is unprecedented poverty and violence.
The common-sense solution is for the United Nations to adopt an aid program of protection from poverty for the world’s needy who do not receive this help from their countries. This is to be paid for by a global, progressive income tax on individuals and corporations and national reductions of military spending.
