USC names new dean of Keck School of Medicine
A prominent ophthalmologist from the University of Miami is to become the next dean of USC’s Keck School of Medicine, officials announced Monday.
Carmen A. Puliafito, 56, who served as director of the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and chairman of the ophthalmology department at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, is scheduled to assume his post at the Los Angeles school on Nov. 1.
He holds a medical degree from Harvard University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
As dean of USC’s medical school, Puliafito will succeed Brian Henderson, a cancer epidemiologist who has served as dean since 2004 and is to return full time to his research.
