‘Xanadu’ goes on a roll

“Xanadu” is extending its roller-disco reach beyond Broadway.
Plans are under way for a national tour, set to begin next summer in San Francisco, most likely at the Curran Theatre. And a London production of the hit musical is in the works, too.
The show, based on the cult movie musical about a Greek muse who helps inspire the creation of a roller disco, has proven to be one of the summer’s big hits. Kerry Butler plays the muse, Kira, and Cheyenne Jackson is the artist she helps.
“Xanadu,” which opened July 10 at the Helen Hayes Theatre, has a book by Douglas Carter Beane and features songs from the movie by John Farrar and Jeff Lynne. They include such pop hits as “Magic,” “All Over the World,” “I’m Alive” and the title tune.
