Delay seen in awarding of tanker pact

The Air Force is running late in evaluating aerial refueling tanker proposals from Boeing Co. and Northrop Grumman Corp. and may not award a contract until early 2008, according to analysts, industry sources and a Pentagon official.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the contract award slipped into next year,” said the official, who asked not to be named.

A contract for 179 new tankers, valued at $40 billion, had been expected in September or October.
