One dynamic night of dance

Share

Diavolo Dance Theater has long performed to tailor-made original music, but in “Foreign Bodies” at the Hollywood Bowl, founder-choreographer Jacques Heim tackles a thorny score by Esa-Pekka Salonen -- with Salonen conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic right behind the dancing.

In what’s shaping up as the local dance event of the year, Heim sets his company of fearless dancing gymnasts hurtling around, over and through a massive metal sculpture that changes from a hollow cube to a platform bridge and even a gleaming pyramid. Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 completes the program.

“Diavolo Dances Salonen” with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Diavolo Dance Theater. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Ave., Hollywood. 8 p.m. Tuesday. $6 to $43 (Sold out: benches V and X as well as Garden and Terrace box seats.) (323) 850-2000; www.hollywoodbowl.com
