Zep fans ready to rock

Share

BACK in 1980, unlike then-Zep hater Ann Powers [“From Zep Hater to a Whole Lotta Love,” Dec. 2], I was eagerly awaiting a Led Zeppelin concert tour that never materialized. I’ve waited 27 years for what is surely an urban legend, a most appropriate homage to the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band of all time. But, Ann, leave the anthem “Stairway to Heaven” alone and celebrate the more visceral work like “When the Levee Breaks” and “The Crunge.”

This is a band that transcends all others, picking up a new generation of fans every few years. Nobody will be able to reproduce the high-pitched wail of Robert Plant and the guitar work of Jimmy Page until the original members can actually reunite. I spit upon the post-Zeppelin work of the Honeydrippers and others, preferring the original masters of the art.

Rock on!

Any recording or tour can be only a partial reunion because Zep’s original drummer, John Bonham, died in 1980. His son, Jason, would be sitting in his place.
