How Clinton helps Bill Richardson

Re “Clinton not an easy sell to all women,” Dec. 7

As a politically active Democrat and a woman, I support Hillary Clinton’s efforts to get to where she is today, but I too am not supporting her in the primary. It’s not out of female-on-female animosity, or that as a woman I hold her to a higher or different standard than men. It’s because her generation taught me to think as an individual. Thinking as an independent, rational-minded individual leads me to back the candidate that best fits me -- in this case Bill Richardson -- not to line up behind another candidate because she’s my gender.

To win the nomination soundly, Clinton has to appeal to a wide audience, but that doesn’t mean women have to make up the bulk of that support. She paved the way for us to choose better than that. The article just tries to paint women back into a group-think-mentality box. While I quietly root for Clinton to keep breaking down gender barriers, I’m going to continue the job by voting my conscience.
