2 men charged in woman’s slaying
Two men were charged with murder Wednesday in the gang-related killing of a 20-year-old woman Monday, police said.
The suspects, Amilcar Jose Romero, 21, and Juan Carlos Gutierrez, 31, were among seven men arrested Tuesday after police were led to the group by a Global Positioning Satellite system device attached to a gang member’s ankle.
Authorities said that after Nelly Vergara, 20, was killed in a Mid-City area known for gang activity, officers checked the movements of 20 gang members who had been outfitted with a GPS ankle device as a condition of parole. That led to surveillance of one member in Compton and the eventual arrest of the seven men.
