Star of his own back lot

With chairs designed for a Marilyn Monroe comedy, portraits of movie stars by late actor and photographer Yul Brynner, and a client list that includes the likes of Ben Affleck, Peter Dunham has every right to call his new showroom Hollywood at Home. The interior designer sought out the space to display his burgeoning collection of Belgian linen paisleys and prints, which he describes as “Brigitte Bardot on the Mediterranean and Jackie Kennedy goes to Jaipur” (from $92 a yard, above left). His second-story digs are decorated with his kicked-back Merchant-Ivory modern flair. Signature designs include a diamond tufted chaise and the “How to Marry a Millionaire” chair, a rush-wrapped reproduction of seating used in the 1953 Monroe film ($1,265, shown here with Dunham). Vintage lighting has been smartly updated, below left, and the designer’s fabrics can be made into custom drum shade pendants (starting at $1,100) and throw pillows ($250). Less expensive items include hand-picked design books, knickknacks and Dunham’s favorite room fragrance, L’Erbolario’s Incense and Amber ($24 a bottle). 636 N.
