Crowds decry rise in food prices
From Times Wire Reports
Tens of thousands of trade unionists, farmers and leftists marched in Mexico City to protest price increases for basic foods such as tortillas.
One banner aimed at President Felipe Calderon read: “Calderon stole the elections, and now he’s stealing the tortillas!”
Tortilla prices have doubled over the last year to about 45 cents a pound, causing hardship among millions of poor people.
