CBS continued to reap the benefits of its Super Bowl telecast last week, with a rare Monday victory and strong viewership for “Criminal Minds” helping to make it the week’s most-watched network in prime time, according to figures released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research.

CBS averaged 13.98 million viewers for its prime-time programming from Feb. 5 through Sunday, which also included the most-watched Grammy telecast since 2004.

Thanks to the usual 1-2 finish by the “American Idol” episodes, Fox was second with 11.85 million viewers, followed by ABC with 10.13 million, NBC with 8.82 million and the CW with 3.4 million.

What CBS dubbed as “Super Monday” and heavily promoted on its broadcast of Super Bowl XLI gave it a rare Monday victory Feb. 5, averaging a season-high 14.92 million viewers.

A football-themed episode of “How I Met Your Mother” drew a season-high 10.61 million viewers, while a football-themed episode of “The Class” followed with 9.54 million -- the most since the 10.48 million for its premiere Sept. 18.

“Two and a Half Men” followed with a season-high 17.68 million viewers. The premiere of the comedy “Rules of Engagement” then drew 14.83 million viewers, the most by a CBS program in the Monday 9:30-10 p.m. time slot this season and the most during the week by any first-season program. Both programs won their time slots, in a highly competitive time period that also includes NBC’s “Heroes” and Fox’s “24.”

Wednesday’s conclusion of the two-part “Criminal Minds,” which began after CBS’ Super Bowl telecast, drew 16.27 million viewers, 25% more than its last original episode in the time period.

CBS’ coverage of Sunday’s Grammy Awards ceremony from Staples Center drew 20.06 million viewers, 18% more than the record-low 17.01 million last year’s averaged and the most for a Grammy show since the 2004 telecast drew 26.29 million.
