Spot for teens to hang with music

Share

Reading Jessica Gelt’s article “ID? No Way!” [Feb. 1] brought a smile to my face.

It reminded me of the only (at least in the late ‘80s) all-ages venue in Salt Lake City where I grew up: the Indian Center, which was immortalized in the film “SLC Punk.”

And God bless people like Donavan and Rachel Foy, who take out second mortgages and sell their cars to provide a venue for teenagers and others interested in music.

There’s always the backyard or the garage for spur-of-the-moment noise fests (I had my share of those in high school too). But those usually result in neighbor complaints and the guitars, drums and mikes being banished. So it’s usually better to make and hear music in a community of like-minded fans, regardless of their age.
