Officials try to prevent backlash

From Times Wire Reports

The Salt Lake City mayor and police chief sought to head off any backlash against Bosnian immigrants three days after a Bosnian teenager shot five people to death in a shopping mall and then died in a shootout.

Mayor Ross C. “Rocky” Anderson strongly criticized Internet postings and e-mails sent to newspapers that concluded the shooter was an Islamic terrorist.

Police said there was no evidence to support such an allegation.

The teen, Sulejmen Talovic, and his family immigrated to Utah as war refugees in 1998.
