Re “Times’ oceans expose wins writers a Polk Award,” Feb. 20

I offer my congratulations to staff writers Kenneth Weiss and Usha Lee McFarling and the Los Angeles Times for the George Polk Award. The series, “Altered Oceans,” was incredibly disturbing. I have saved all five articles in the series. It underscores the great importance of the print media to those of us who want to be kept informed on serious issues. TV network programming, with the exception of a few PBS shows, seems to be avoiding controversy. The subject of pollution -- water, air, oceans, land -- must be faced directly, and now.
