The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Philippines:

Clinton W. Ahlquist, 23, of Creede, Colo.; sergeant, Marine Corps. Ahlquist was killed in combat Tuesday in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Matthew S. Apuan, 27, of Las Cruces, N.M.; sergeant, Army. Apuan was killed Feb. 18 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

David R. Berry, 37, of Wichita, Kan.; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Berry was killed Thursday when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Qasim, Iraq, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery in Dodge City, Kan.

Christopher K. Boone, 34, of Augusta, Ga.; specialist, Army National Guard. Boone died of a noncombat-related injury Feb. 17 in Balad, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 121st Infantry Regiment (Long Range Surveillance) at Ft. Gillem, Ga.

Matthew C. Bowe, 19, of Coraopolis, Pa.; private first class, Army. Bowe was among three soldiers killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Adare W. Cleveland, 19, of Anchorage; private first class, Army. Cleveland was among three soldiers killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Pedro J. Colon, 25, of Cicero, Ill.; sergeant, Army. Colon was one of two soldiers killed Monday when their unit was attacked with multiple weapons in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Scott E. Duffman, 32, of Albuquerque; technical sergeant, Air Force. Duffman was among eight troops killed Feb. 18 when their CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter crashed in Afghanistan’s Zabol province, south of Kabul. He was assigned to the 24th Special Tactics Squadron at Pope Air Force Base, N.C.

Shawn M. Dunkin, 25, of Columbia, S.C.; sergeant, Army. Dunkin was among three soldiers killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Brian A. Escalante, 25, of Dodge City, Kan.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Escalante was killed Feb. 17 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Richard L. Ford, 40, of East Hartford, Conn.; sergeant, Army. Ford was killed in combat Tuesday in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Ryan C. Garbs, 20, of Edwardsville, Ill.; private first class, Army. Garbs was among eight troops killed Feb. 18 when their CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter crashed in Afghanistan’s Zabol province, south of Kabul. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Gordon was among eight troops killed Feb. 18 when their CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter crashed in Afghanistan’s Zabol province, south of Kabul. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Blake H. Howey, 20, of Glendora; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Howey was killed in combat Feb. 18 in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Buddy J. Hughie, 25, of Poteau, Okla.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Hughie was killed Monday when his unit was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire in Kamdesh, Afghanistan, northeast of Kabul. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 180th Infantry Division in Ada, Okla.

Jason D. Johns, 19, of Frankton, Ind.; private first class, Army. Johns died of a noncombat-related injury Wednesday in Bagram, Afghanistan, north of Kabul. He was assigned to the 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Louis G. Kim, 19, of West Covina; specialist, Army. Kim was killed Tuesday when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Timothy D. Lewis, 20, of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; corporal, Marine Corps. Lewis died of cardiac arrest Feb. 15 during military exercises in the southern Philippines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He collapsed shortly after arriving on Jolo island, and doctors failed to revive him. He was assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 37, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan.

Montrel S. McArn, 21, of Raeford, N.C.; specialist, Army. McArn was one of two soldiers killed Monday when their unit was attacked with multiple weapons in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Ronnie G. Madore Jr., 34, of San Diego; specialist, Army. Madore was among three soldiers killed Feb. 14 when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Baqubah, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Chad E. Marsh, 20, of Wichita, Kan.; private first class, Army. Marsh was killed Feb. 18 when a grenade exploded near him in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.

Justin T. Paton, 24, of Alanson, Mich.; private first class, Army. Paton was killed Feb. 17 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Tarmiya, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

John A. Quinlan, 36, of Bradley Beach, N.J.; chief warrant officer, Army. Quinlan was among eight troops killed Feb. 18 when their CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter crashed in Afghanistan’s Zabol province, south of Kabul. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

John D. Rode, 24, of Pineville, N.C.; sergeant, Army. Rode was among three soldiers killed Feb. 14 when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Baqubah, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Todd M. Siebert, 34, of Baden, Pa.; captain, Marine Corps. Siebert was killed Feb. 16 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Carl L. Seigart, 32, San Luis Obispo; sergeant, Army. Seigart was among three soldiers killed Feb. 14 when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Baqubah, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

William C. Spillers, 39, of Terry, Miss.; sergeant first class, Army National Guard. Spillers died of a noncombat-related injury Feb. 17 in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 230th Finance Detachment in Jackson, Miss.

Kristofer D.S. Thomas, 18, of Roseville, Calif.; private first class, Army. Thomas was among eight troops killed Feb. 18 when their CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter crashed in Afghanistan’s Zabol province, south of Kabul. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Brett A. Witteveen, 20, of Shelby, Mich.; private first class, Marine Corps Reserve. Witteveen was killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near him in Fallouja, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Kelly D. Youngblood, 19, of Mesa, Ariz.; private, Army. Youngblood was killed by a sniper Feb. 18 in Ramadi, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.
