Re “Brown sworn into office, quirks and all,” Jan. 9

The Times gave extensive coverage to the inauguration of Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown and to the swearing in of Ron Dellums as mayor of Oakland. Only 11 words were given to the inauguration of Debra Bowen as secretary of state.

Bowen is only the sixth woman to be elected to a statewide constitutional office in California. It is apparent that your new editors do not understand the importance of this office. The secretary of state does many jobs, including serving as chief election officer. The Times needs to learn more about the responsibilities of the constitutional officers in our state.
