Pick your view: Wall or window

AT Jancar Gallery on Wilshire Boulevard, it isn’t only the art on the walls that captures visitors’ attention -- it’s the bird’s-eye, cityscape view from the 13th-story windows of the gallery’s unusual location: the top floor of a 1929 Art Deco office tower in Koreatown.

The gallery, which opened in October with an exhibition of Katy Crowe paintings, marks the return of owner Tom Jancar to L.A.’s art scene. His new space is just five blocks east of the former basement gallery that Jancar and partner Richard Kuhlenschmidt ran 26 years ago. Short-lived but pivotal, that space became known for exhibiting works by William Leavitt, Louise Lawler, Richard Prince and David Amico, among others.

Current and upcoming exhibitions in the new gallery include one curated by Kim Hubbard and shows by artists Robin Mitchell and Bobbie Oliver.
