Other deaths

The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq or who died of their injuries at military hospitals in Germany and California:

Daniel J. Agami, 25, of Coconut Creek, Fla.; private first class, Army. Agami was one of five soldiers killed June 21 in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.

David J. Bentz III, 20, of Newfield, N.J.; private first class, Army. Bentz was one of four soldiers killed June 20 in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Sid W. Brookshire, 36, of Missouri; major, Army. Brookshire was one of four soldiers killed June 20 in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

William E. Brown, 25, of Phil Campbell, Ala.; sergeant, Army. Brown died June 23 in Taji, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with indirect fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Henry G. Byrd III, 20, of Veguita, N.M.; private first class, Army. Byrd died June 24 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, from a noncombat-related illness sustained June 18 while in Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Derek A. Calhoun, 23, of Oklahoma City; specialist, Army. Calhoun was one of four soldiers killed June 23 in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Joe G. Charfauros Jr., 33, of Rota, Northern Mariana Islands; specialist, Army. Charfauros was one of four soldiers killed June 20 in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Andre Craig Jr., 24, of New Haven, Conn.; private first class, Army. Craig died Monday in Baghdad of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Joel A. Dahl, 21, of Los Lunas, N.M.; sergeant, Army. Dahl died June 23 in Baghdad of wounds sustained when his unit was attacked by enemy forces using small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Chris Davis, 35, of Lubbock, Texas; sergeant, Army. Davis was one of three soldiers killed June 23 in Baghdad when their unit was attacked by insurgents using an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Derek C. Dixon, 20, of Riverside, Ohio; corporal, Marine Corps. Dixon died Tuesday while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Carter A. Gamble Jr., 24 of Brownstown, Ind.; specialist, Army. Gamble died June 24 in Duraiya, Iraq, of wounds suffered from enemy small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Anthony D. Hebert, 19, of Lake City, Minn.; private first class, Army. Hebert was one of five soldiers killed June 21 in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.

Darren P. Hubbell, 38, of Tifton, Ga.; staff sergeant, Army. Hubbell was one of four soldiers killed June 20 in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Joseph P. Kenny, 20, of Veneta, Ore.; specialist, Army. Kenny died June 23 in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a noncombat related incident. He was assigned to the 27th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Bliss, Texas.

Thomas R. Leemhuis, 23, of Binger, Okla.; private first class, Army. Leemhuis was one of five soldiers killed June 21 in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.

Darrell C. Lewis, 31, of Washington, D.C.; captain, Army. Lewis died June 23 in Vashir City, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his unit was attacked by insurgents using rocket-propelled grenades, mortars and small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Jimy M. Malone, 23, of Wills Point, Texas; sergeant, Army. Malone was one of four soldiers killed June 23 in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Alphonso J. Montenegro II, 22, of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; sergeant, Army. Montenegro was one of five soldiers killed June 21 in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.

Michael J. Montpetit, 31, of Honolulu; sergeant, Army. Montpetit died June 22 in Baghdad of injuries from a noncombat-related incident. He was assigned to the 15th Forward Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Michael D. Moody Jr., 31, of Richmond, Va.; staff sergeant, Army. Moody was one of three soldiers killed June 23 in Baghdad when their unit was attacked by insurgents using an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Trista L. Moretti, 27, of South Plainfield, N.J.; sergeant, Army. Moretti died Monday in Nasir Lafitah, Iraq, when her unit was attacked by insurgents using indirect fire. She was assigned to the 425th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Jason D. Nathan, 22, of Macon, Ga.; airman first class, Air Force. Nathan died June 23 in Iraq of wounds suffered while on patrol when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 48th Security Forces Squadron, Royal Air Force in Lakenheath, England.

Daniel A. Newsome, 27, of Chicopee, Mass.; staff sergeant, Army. Newsome died Wednesday in Baghdad of wounds from an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Eric C. Palmer, 21, of Maize, Kan.; specialist, Army. Palmer died June 24 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked June 21 by insurgents using small-arms fire in Bayji, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Daniel P. Riordan, 24, of St. Louis; first lieutenant, Army. Riordan was one of four soldiers killed June 23 in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Dominic N. Rodriguez, 23, of Klamath Falls, Ore.; specialist, Army. Rodriguez died June 22 in Baghdad of injuries from a noncombat-related incident. He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Frank M. Sandoval, 27, of Yuma, Ariz.; sergeant, Army. Sandoval died June 18 in Palo Alto, Calif., of wounds sustained Nov. 28, 2005, when his unit was attacked by insurgents using small-arms fire in Tikrit, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Artillery at Ft. Sill, Okla.

Shane M. Stinson, 23, of Fullerton; private, Army. Stinson was one of three soldiers killed June 23 in Baghdad when their unit was attacked by insurgents using an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Benning, Ga.

Jerimiah J. Veitch, 21, of Dibble, Okla.; private first class, Army. Veitch died June 21 in Baghdad of wounds suffered when his vehicle was struck with a rocket-propelled grenade. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Nathan L. Winder, 32, of Blanding, Utah; sergeant first class, Army. Winder died Tuesday in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq, of wounds from enemy small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Ft. Lewis, Wash.
