3rd suspect charged in failed bombings
An Indian doctor arrested the day his brother allegedly drove a Jeep into the entrance of the main terminal at Glasgow Airport in Scotland was charged Saturday with a terrorism offense.
Sabeel Ahmed of Liverpool, England, is the third person charged in the plot. He is to appear in a London court Monday on a charge of withholding information that could prevent a terrorist act, police said.
Ahmed, 26, was arrested June 30 in Liverpool. He is the brother of Kafeel Ahmed, who was arrested on suspicion of crashing a fuel-laden Jeep Cherokee into the airport and is in critical condition with burns in a Scottish hospital.
Mohammed Haneef, 27, also an Indian doctor and a distant cousin who once shared a house with the brothers in Britain, was charged hours earlier in Australia with supporting a terrorist group. The attorney general said today that Haneef wouldn’t be extradited to Britain while he faces charges in Australia.
Bilal Abdullah, 27, a doctor raised in Iraq, was charged earlier by British authorities with conspiring to set off explosions.
Eight people have been detained in connection with the failed car bomb attacks in London and Glasgow, including Jordanian doctor Mohammed Asha, 26. On Saturday a British judge gave police at least another week to continue questioning him.
