Don’t men qualify for ‘senior sex’?

Share

IN Scott Collins’ July 14 column, “ ‘Love’ and Sex on HBO,” I was at first rather taken with his fresh turn-of-phrase regarding “snow-domed” acting doyenne Jane Alexander dropping trou for some “frisky senior sex.” That is, until I realized that evidently it only becomes “senior sex” if the woman involved is past the age of 50.

I had never seen such a patronizing, “how-cute” term used to characterize the sexual on-screen exploits of such actors as Sean Connery, Harrison Ford, Kevin Costner or Woody Allen. But I guess that’s because their partners are dewy, much younger women.

So, evidently, it is the presence of a mature female that makes it “frisky” (a demeaning sexual adjective if ever I’ve heard one), and senior. That is so tired, so retro.
