Council delays vote on smoking ban in parks

After losing a quorum Friday, the Los Angeles City Council delayed taking a vote on an ordinance that would ban smoking in most city parks.

The vote has been rescheduled for Aug. 1. The proposed ordinance would allow smoking in designated areas and on some city golf courses.

Smoking ban: A brief in the California section Saturday said the Los Angeles City Council delayed a vote Friday on a smoking ban in city parks because the council lost a quorum. In fact, the council voted 11 to 0 for the smoking ban, but a second vote is required because 12 votes are needed for approval.
