Susan Sarandon, a grandma?

The 60-year-old Academy Award-winning actress has signed on to play Grandma Lynn in Peter Jackson’s film version of Alice Sebold’s bestselling novel, “The Lovely Bones.”

The film tells the story of 14-year-old Susie Salmon, who’s murdered by a neighbor but then watches her family cope with the tragedy from heaven. Newcomer Saoirse Ronan plays Susie, while Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling and Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz play her grieving parents. Sarandon will play the mother of Weisz’s character, who moves in with the family after Susie’s death.

The $65-million DreamWorks/Channel 4 movie will begin shooting in October.
