Prosecutors say coach’s case not compromised

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Federal prosecutors said Friday that media leaks did not compromise the deliberations of the grand jury that indicted elite track coach Trevor Graham on perjury charges.

Graham’s lawyers have asked a judge to dismiss the case, arguing that widely published reports saying Graham “was expected to be indicted” were grounds for dismissal.

Graham, who trained track stars Justin Gatlin, Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery, was charged in November with three counts of making false statements to federal agents. The government said Graham lied in 2004 when he denied distributing steroids or telling his athletes where they could get them.
