L.A. location filming increases

Filming outside of studio lots in Los Angeles jumped sharply in the second quarter, another sign studios may be stockpiling projects in the wake of increased labor tensions.
FilmL.A. Inc., the nonprofit group that issues permits for shooting for most of Los Angeles County, said the number of shooting days rose 21.4% from a year earlier to 9,534. That included a 29.2% increase in shooting days for feature films, to 2,514 days. Each day marks a single day of filming on a project.
Studios usually accelerate projects when labor tensions are high, building a cushion of films and TV shows in case of a strike. Studios currently are at odds at the bargaining table with writers, and are scheduled to negotiate with actors next year.
