XM to air original D-day bulletins

Share

In an effort to make history come alive, XM Satellite Radio today will begin playing radio accounts of the D-day invasion of Normandy in 1944. Appropriately, the programming will be on the channel that XM devotes to music of the 1940s.

Beginning at 9:41 p.m., XM will air NBC’s original news bulletins and other reports about the landing of U.S. and Allied troops in France, which marked the beginning of the effort to oust Nazi occupation forces from western Europe during World War II.

Each account will air at the same time it did originally, XM said.

The D-day programming, obtained from the National Archives, will continue until 2:45 p.m. Thursday. The news material will occupy about 30% of the ‘40s channel’s air time during this period, with the rest given over to music from the day.
