You can’t win if you don’t play

From Times Wire Reports

A Dutch woman lost her compensation claim for mental distress suffered when her neighbors won a lottery.

Prize winners were chosen by postal code, and Helene de Gier would have shared in the $19-million prize if she had bought a ticket -- as her seven neighbors in the town of Heusden did.

She claimed “emotional blackmail” and demanded compensation, but the court said lottery organizers cannot be held responsible for those who fail to take part and later regret it.
