Other deaths

The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:

Michael A. Bechert, 24, of New Castle, Ind.; staff sergeant, Army. Bechert died June 14 in San Antonio of wounds suffered May 30 when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.

Val J. Borm, 21, of Sidney, Neb.; specialist, Army. Borm was one of three soldiers killed June 14 in Kirkuk, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Infantry Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Dustin R. Brisky, 26, of Round Rock, Texas; specialist, Army Reserve. Brisky died June 14 in Tallil, Iraq, of wounds from an explosion. He was assigned to the 952nd Engineer Company in Paris, Texas. The unit was attached to the 92nd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Sustainment Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Karen N. Clifton, 22, of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; specialist, Army. Clifton died Thursday in Baghdad of wounds suffered when her vehicle was hit with a rocket-propelled grenade. She was assigned to the 554th Military Police Company, 95th Military Police Battalion in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Farid Elazzouzi, 26, of Paterson, N.J.; specialist, Army. Elazzouzi was one of three soldiers killed June 14 in Kirkuk, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Infantry Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Zachary A. Grass, 34, of Beach City, Ohio; specialist, Army. Grass was one of two soldiers killed June 16 in Rashidiyah, Iraq, when the vehicle they were in struck an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Christopher D. Henderson, 35, of Hillsboro, Ore.; sergeant first class, Army. Henderson was one of three soldiers killed June 17 in Panjway, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division (Transition Team) at Ft. Riley, Kan.

John M. Hennen, 26, of Vinton, La.; sergeant first class, Army National Guard. Hennen was one of three soldiers killed June 17 in Panjway, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment in Lake Charles, La.

Roy P. Lewsader Jr., 36, of Belleville, Ill.; staff sergeant, Army. Lewsader died June 16 in Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered when his vehicle was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade. He was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Darryl W. Linder, 23, of Hickory, N.C.; specialist, Army. Linder died Tuesday in Baqubah, Iraq, of wounds from an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Shawn P. Martin, 30, of Delmar, N.Y.; sergeant, Marine Corps. Martin was one of two Marines killed Wednesday while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 13, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Joshua S. Modgling, 22, of Las Vegas; private first class, Army. Modgling was one of two soldiers killed Tuesday in Muhammad al Ali, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Richard K. Parker, 26, of Phillips, Maine; sergeant, Army National Guard. Parker died June 14 in Scania, Iraq, from wounds suffered a day earlier when improvised explosive devices detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. He was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 152nd Field Artillery Regiment in Waterville, Maine.

Larry Parks Jr., 24, of Altoona, Pa.; private first class, Army. Parks died Monday in Arab Jabor, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Dustin J. Perrott, 23, of Fredericksburg, Va.; sergeant, Army. Perrott died Thursday in Miri, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Michael P. Pittman, 34, of Davenport, Iowa; private first class, Army. Pittman died June 15 in Baghdad of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team,1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Derek T. Roberts, 24, of Gold River, Calif.; sergeant, Army. Roberts was one of three soldiers killed June 14 in Kirkuk, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Infantry Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Eric L. Snell, 35, of Trenton, N.J.; sergeant, Army. Snell died Monday in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his unit came in contact with insurgents using small-arms fire in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Raymond N. Spencer Jr., 23, of Carmichael, Calif.; private first class, Army. Spencer died Thursday in Baghdad of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by insurgents using an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Bliss, Texas.

Kevin H. Sonnenberg, 42, of McClure, Ohio; major, Air Force. Sonnenberg died June 15 when his jet crashed five miles north of Balad Air Base in Iraq. He was assigned to the 112th Fighter Squadron in Toledo, Ohio.

Danny R. Soto, 24, of Houston; sergeant, Army. Soto was one of two soldiers killed June 16 in Rashidiyah, Iraq, when the vehicle they were in struck an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Jacob T. Tracy, 20, of Palestine, Ill.; private first class, Army. Tracy died Monday in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered a day earlier when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Frank B. Walkup IV, 23, of Woodbury, Tenn.; first lieutenant, Army. Walkup died June 16 in Kirkuk, Iraq, from injuries sustained in Rashaad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his position during dismounted operations. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

David A. Wilkey Jr., 22, of Elkhart, Ind.; private first class, Army. Wilkey died Monday in Baghdad of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit a day earlier in that city. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Stephen J. Wilson, 28, of Duluth, Ga.; staff sergeant, Marine Corps. Wilson was one of two Marines killed Wednesday while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 13, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

William A. Zapfe, 35, of Muldraugh, Ky.; sergeant first class, Army. Zapfe was one of two soldiers killed Tuesday in Muhammad al Ali, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.
