A woman was killed when an express passenger train struck her car and carried it about half a mile down the tracks, authorities said.

The driver of the red Toyota Camry, whose name and age were not released, had stopped the car on the tracks and made no attempt to move it even after the warning bells and lights went on and the crossing barrier came down on her roof, witnesses said.

Crews spent two hours after the 4:45 p.m. Thursday incident removing the car from under the train.

Train service was stopped in both directions for almost an hour and halted on the northbound side of the tracks until 8 p.m.

“We really don’t know if it was a suicide or an unfortunate accident,” said Police Officer Max Nielepko.
