The 22nd Los Angeles Marathon

More than a million spectators are expected to turn out Sunday to watch runners, walkers, bike riders and wheelchair racers swarm through the streets of Los Angeles. Taking the tour

The marathon route is new this year, providing participants a tour of some of the city’s landmarks and highlights.

Hollywood Bowl

Soon after the start near Universal City in the Cahuenga Pass, runners will head downhill past the Hollywood Bowl.

Hollywood & Highland

At Hollywood & Highland Center, site of the Academy Awards ceremonies, Walk of Fame regulars such as Darth Vader, Superman and the Cookie Monster pose for pictures with tourists.

Hancock Park

At Melrose Avenue and Vine Street, the gritty streets of Hollywood give way to a tree-lined row of mansions like the one at right.

Koreatown

In Koreatown, dancers and singers will perform at the new Koreatown Pavilion at Olympic Boulevard and Normandie Avenue.

Coliseum

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum has hosted two Olympics and two Super Bowls. Home to USC’s Trojans, it is considered a possible site for the 2016 Olympics and a future NFL franchise.

6th Street Bridge

For the first time, the race will pass through the neighborhoods of L.A.’s Eastside. Heading back into downtown, runners will cross the historic 6th Street Bridge with its striking views of the downtown skyline.

U.S. Bank Tower

The U.S. Bank Tower near the finish line is the tallest building west of Chicago, at 73 stories. Music and food will be available at the Finish Line Festival.
