Vision for L.A. Opera is realized
WEDNESDAY night, L.A. Opera presented the first in its series of “Recorded Voices” [“A Moving Tribute to Neglected ‘Voices,’ ” by Mark Swed, March 9]. In the process, it became the company I envisioned in the fall of 1978 when I began the long journey toward Los Angeles having a resident opera company.
With the bold, visionary leadership of the great James Conlon in a partnership led by Marilyn Ziering, L.A. Opera has moved beyond being merely another good opera company.
Nietzsche said that there is no art without love. This impassioned act of love has lifted L.A. Opera to greatness.
