What exactly is being saved with daylight saving time?

Regarding “Early daylight saving spurs race against time” (March 6):

If everyone in California replaced just one incandescent lightbulb with a fluorescent lightbulb, we would see a much greater energy reduction than that purported to result from daylight saving time.

This reduction would continue throughout the year. And, who knows, the rest of the country might just catch on.

If nothing else, California could join the half-dozen states that see no point in causing their citizens to be even more sleep deprived.

Besides affecting the mood of many people, of which I am one, how does daylight saving time (and using electricity for an extra hour in the morning) cut usage?

Consuming less at night but more in the morning does not save electric power.

Dark is dark no matter when it comes.
