Pair who were poisoned in Russia leave hospital
The two Los Angeles women poisoned with thallium during a recent stay in Moscow were discharged Monday from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after 12 days of treatment.
The patients -- physician Marina Kovalevsky, 49, and her daughter, Yana, 26 -- continue to recuperate, the hospital said.
The thallium levels in the women’s bodies have declined after treatment, “but they continue to exhibit symptoms, which will be managed at home,” said Shrinath Barathan, the attending physician of the two women.
Thallium is an odorless, colorless, toxic chemical element initially suspected in the death of a former Russian spy in London last year.
