Five people were treated for minor respiratory injuries, and one taken to a hospital, after inhaling a mixture of two swimming pool chemicals -- chlorine and muriatic acid -- Wednesday at the West Hollywood Pool, fire officials said.
A man, a pool worker, was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for “minor to moderate distress with respiratory complications,” said Inspector Scott Ross, spokesman for the county Fire Department.
The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m. when pool workers mixed the two chemicals and created a chlorine vapor cloud, officials said.
About 60 firefighters and emergency personnel responded to the incident, which prompted the closure of nearby streets for several hours.
