Nepal’s ruling seven-party alliance and former Maoist rebels agreed to form a joint government, the latest step in ending a decade of civil war.

The landmark agreement was reached in a meeting of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, leaders of the seven parties and Prachanda, head of the former rebels, said Tourism Minister Pradeep Gyawali, who has been a member of the negotiating team.

The interim government will hold elections later this year.
