Afghan rebels kill soldier
Militants attacked U.S.-led coalition forces and Afghan border police in southern Afghanistan, killing one coalition soldier, officials said today.
The soldier was seriously wounded in the clash Tuesday, about 25 miles southwest of Qalat in Zabol province, and he died at a medical facility, the coalition statement said.
The soldier’s nationality was not released.
The patrol was returning from providing medical assistance to more than 600 Afghans in Kandahar province, the statement said.
The death brings to about 50 the number of foreign soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year, including at least 25 U.S. troops.
