A misleading proposition

Share

Re “All wet,” editorial, May 23

A cause of low voter turnout is illustrated in the misleading selling of Proposition 84. In the shadow of the terrible Hurricane Katrina disaster, voting for bonds to pay for what we were told were crucial water safety, water quality and flood control measures sounded like a good idea. Discovering that hundreds of millions of dollars in bonds are actually going toward projects not related to water safety or quality is certainly upsetting.

Not getting what you think you’re voting for discourages trust and future voter enthusiasm, assuring that some voters, feeling misled by political game-playing, may be reluctant to return to the voting booth next time.
