London’s Royal Opera House bought its own DVD recording and distribution company, purchasing Opus Arte for $11.3 million.

“This gives us a substantial entry into the global DVD and digital marketplace,” Royal Opera Chief Executive Tony Hall said. “As a significant part of our digital strategy it also hugely increases what we have to offer our audiences both in and beyond the opera house, with new material for our website, and for education purposes.”

Royal Opera said it hoped to create revenue from DVD sales, broadcast and theatrical release in theaters, video on demand, pay per view and digital media.
