Murder charges filed in pregnant woman’s death
Prosecutors filed murder charges Wednesday against a woman who allegedly ran over and killed a pregnant student during a brawl involving as many as 30 women in South Los Angeles this week.
Unique Bishop, 21, was charged with two counts of murder in connection with the death Monday of Shontae Treniece Blanche, 22, and her fetus. Bishop also faces three counts of attempted murder for allegedly plowing her car into a group of women during a confrontation at a South Los Angeles gas station.
Prosecutors filed a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, which could make Bishop subject to the death penalty if convicted, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the district attorney.
Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death sentence. Bishop, who is being held without bail, is slated to be arraigned Nov. 26.
