CBS has Nos. 1 and 2, but ABC is tops

ABC edged out CBS to win last week’s prime-time ratings race, thanks to “Dancing With the Stars,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and its Sunday duo of “Desperate Housewives” and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” according to figures released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research.

With six of the 11 most-watched shows, ABC averaged 11.93 million viewers for its prime-time programming between Nov. 5 and Sunday, to become the most-watched network for the second time in the season’s seven weeks in the live plus same-day ratings.

CBS was second with 11.89 million, benefiting from a 1-2 performance by a “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”/”Without a Trace” crossover. “CSI” drew 21.94 million viewers, its most since the season premiere, to become the most-watched show for the fifth week this season.

Fox was third for the week with 8.84 million viewers, followed by NBC with 8.2 million and the CW with 2.91 million.

ABC was first among viewers ages 18-49, the group it, Fox and NBC target, for the fifth time in seven weeks, with “Grey’s Anatomy” being the most-watched show in the category. --

They are based on the average number of people who watched a program from start to finish. Nielsen estimates there are 286 million potential viewers in the U.S. ages 2 and older. Viewership is listed in millions.
