And you thought you had problems with your landlord. Andrew Meieran, (pictured) one of the men behind the spacious, subterranean downtown destination Edison, has been feuding with owners of the Los Angeles Trust & Savings bank building (215 W. 6th St.) over his next downtown hotspot. The battle focuses on Meieran’s much-anticipated lounge-inside-a-bank-vault, Mercury Liquors. He alleges the building owners constructed a wall straight through the middle of his proposed venue, which he had hoped to open this year. Meieran sued and won a preliminary ruling earlier this month. Still, the 6,000-square-foot bar, which has already been written about in magazines like GQ for its potential architectural significance, will likely now never get off the ground. “Plans have been indefinitely derailed,” he says. His next court date is in February. . . . Speaking of downtown bars, one bar that will open is Cedd Moses’ new members-only club the Doheny. Local food-nightlife blog eater.la dished the details recently on the formerly secret location of the swank new lounge near Staples Center -- 714 W. Olympic. The bar (soft opening planned for January) is rumored to be stunning -- with a smoker-friendly greenhouse within and has annual dues starting at more than $2,000. A security device/fingerprint scanner will be the only way to gain access. Crashers and uninvited guests beware. . . . The Vegas outpost of beloved Los Angeles tiki-themed bar Trader Vic’s opened last month inside Planet Hollywood casino. And rumor has it Jay-Z will be playing a secret NYE show in Las Vegas to celebrate the opening of his second 40/40 club at the Strip’s latest addition, the Palazzo. . . . Finally, striking writers got another gift from a drinking establishment last week: Vice in Hollywood held a special open bar Nov. 14 for anyone producing a Writers Guild card. The Roxy announced two weeks ago it would grant free admission to all striking writers for the duration of the labor dispute.
